The Manifesting Brainstorming Session

Posted on September 27, 2007 in the Aaron's Monthly, Aaron's Posts, Manifesting, Goals category

One of the things that I constantly advise people to do over at my Today is that Day blog is to always be working towards a goal that excites you. If you aren't consciously creating your life at all times, then you will slip back into "default mode," and before you know it, years will have gone by and you won't have accomplished much.

In practicing what I preach, now that I have successfully manifested a house on the east coast of Florida, it is now time to turn my attention to what my next major goal should be. In the past, this was easy for me because there was always some pressing need that dictated where my manifestation energies should be directed.

Now that I have secured a roof over my head, I am faced with the decision of which of my remaining desires is the strongest, so that I can focus on the attainment of my goals in that area.

I started to write that I now needed to decide what was the most pressing issue in my life, but I don't believe that we should always run around only "putting out fires" in our lives. We are supposed to be enjoying our lives, not just dealing with the necessities, so I decided that going after my desires is not only the best course of action for me, but the best advice that I can give to anyone else as well.

Now, that being said, it would be foolish to simply ignore the necessities in life, which is where this situation gets confusing, because often the desires and the necessities can be partially intertwined.

For example, although I have manifested the house that I wanted, I am far from out of the woods (no pun intended!) as far as free flowing financial energy, and I also still do not have a car. In addition, although I am in no hurry to jump into a relationship right now, I do have a lot to offer a potential partner, and I would not mind at least getting to know some new people now that I'll be making a fresh start in a new town.

So, potential goals included:

In order of "logical" progression, a new playmate is not a necessity, and although a car would help in the long run as far as financial goals, it is also not a necessity.

That leaves the prospect of attaining a certain financial goal as the only thing that is clearly a higher priority than the others. However, as I indicated earlier, this type of brainstorming should be about what I want, not what I need.

So, although I do want a car pretty badly, I can't honestly say that I have a burning desire to get one right now. Having a burning desire is the single most critical component to the attainment of any goal - no matter what it is.

I also do not have a burning desire to get involved in another relationship, although I do feel pulled towards at least getting out "in public view" and keeping an open mind. Doing so would be a lot easier with the one remaining thing on the list: A financial goal.

Now, I do have a burning desire to attain my financial goals! Although I fully endorse the fact that money does not buy happiness, I also fully endorse the fact that money does buy freedom, and to me, freedom and happiness go hand in hand.

In addition, since having plenty of money is a solid first step towards the goals of getting involved in social activities, as well as getting a car - and since I have a particular social event in November that I want to attend - choosing a financial goal was the hands-down leader as to what I should focus the majority of my manifestation energies upon.

I get the majority of my income from advertising revenue and affiliate programs that are sold on my various websites. However, having just launched my proud new accomplishment, Personal Development Partners, there are various revenue streams with that website as well.

Also, the website is meant to be a place where people can help each other find success, and by maintaining that site, I am giving back as much as I am receiving. For that reason, I have no qualms about charging reasonable rates for memberships at PDP, or in showing a reasonable number of advertisements to people who choose to only keep a free membership level.

However, having some vague idea of wanting to make money with my new site is not enough to invoke the power of manifestation. Just as I had to be very specific whenever I manifested my house, I have to be very specific about this financial goal as well. In addition, I believe in timed goals, as well as specific goals, so I have put myself on a time line that is just over 90 days, which will take us to the end of 2007.

My official goal and the object of the majority of my manifestation efforts for the next 90 days is:

I want to have 5,000 paid subscribers to my Personal Development Partners website by January 1, 2008.

I will be detailing that manifestation journey here at The 3 Alchemists, although I can say right now that the process has already started. As recently as earlier today as I was exercising and giving some thought to this new goal, I was asking myself how it was that I could get 5,000 people to see enough value in the site so that they would be willing to sign up for a paid membership.

I thought of and subsequently dismissed several decent ideas that would not work for various reasons. However, the idea that I did come up with works like a charm for adding value to the site, it doesn't cost me a dime to implement it, and it puts money into the pocket of people who can offer value to the PDP community.

In short, I have approached several people who offer valuable electronic products that would be of interest to a community of people who are focused upon personal development. Ordinarily these type of people sell their electronic products through an affiliate arrangement, and they split the profits with their affiliate partners.

Well, although I like to get affiliate checks in the mail as much as the next guy, my goal is not to make "X" amount of dollars via affiliate marketing. My goal is to build enough value into my site so that 5,000 people or more will be willing to pay for a membership there.

Do you see how having a defined and specific goal helps to keep you from getting sidetracked away from your primary objective?

I could just as easily have been seduced by the potentially large profit margins associated with these electronic products, and come up with some sort of affiliate marketing plan. However, affiliate sales are not paid community memberships, and it is community memberships that I am after.

So, I approached the owners of these electronic products and basically said that if they would offer a significant discount to the members of PDP, I would forfeit my half of the affiliate revenue so that the PDP members could get the products at a reduced rate, provided they sign up as a paid member of my site.

So, I'll end this seriously long post on that note, and I'll put up another post soon with an update on the process!

That’s an excellent win-win-win with the affiliate products, very cool Aaron!

Great choice following your burning desires, not the perceived “needs” and fires of the day. Easy trap to fall into and STAY IN forever. :-)
