Hi my name is Mike and I'm a serial entrepreneur. When I was in my senior year of college, I knew I wanted to live a life that I controlled – one with unlimited potential. Being from an entrepreneurial family, I decided to quit my first job as a cold calling sales rep and pursue one of my passions: real estate. For the first few months I read a ton of books, attended conferences, and implemented creative marketing strategies to promote myself. Despite my efforts, there was a major shift in the real estate markets and the transactions were becoming increasingly difficult to put together. It was especially hard for me since I was a rookie and did not fit the typical mold of a real estate agent (55 and female).
After almost a year of not seeing results, I decided to leave the real estate field. It was hard to give up on a dream, but I did learn to not waste energy on pleasing my boss and committed to remembering exactly what I was setting out to do without letting it be altered by others.
While real estate was dying down, I started a local online business directory for my hometown. The main competitor was a directory that was unorganized and looked like it was from 1994, but its ads seemed to rake in some good money. After researching directory programs, I found a site that allowed users to submit content, rate places, and edit their own listings. It was 100x better than the competition.
The problem that I found with this business was that local businesses were not ready for a service like this and in order to generate enough income from the site, I would have to be cold calling businesses all day. Harrassing businesses was not what I envisioned when I created a directory business.
At around this time I took a look at my financial situation and realized that things were getting out of control. So I swallowed my pride and got a 9-5 job in Manhattan. While I am anti-corporate America, this job actually does suit me well with its size and creativity. But in exchange for the meager salary and bullet points to put on my resume, I have to give up almost all of my time and energy to keep up with this job. Sometimes I feel like life is slipping by and I am going to wake up realizing I'm 30 (no offense, Namaste and Aaron!).
So with 2 failed businesses under my belt and a full time job taking most of my time, things might seem less than desirable. But in actuality, there is a lot of potential for change and success. At this point I am looking into starting a new business. I want this one to be simple and successful, something that I can systematize to the point that I can take off and go backpacking for a few months without having everything fall apart. And instead of creating something that I want, I will focus on marketing something that people already have a demand for.
I would say that out of the three of us, I have the least business experience as well as the least amount of experiences with manifestation. I am a very open minded person and I have had situations occur in my life that may have been actual manifestations, but I have not had too many statements of desire magically transform into the thing I wanted. However, I believe that my position as an amateur manifester who does not have a clear list of items to desire makes me the most relatable to you readers. I am fully committed to exploring the process of manifestation, practicing it, and recording all of my successes and failures that result from this.
By August 10, 2008 I expect to be returning from a several month long backpacking trip around the world. I will have a large stream of cashflow from a turnkey business that I created and will not be restricted by my physical location. Everyday will be lived out like a choose-your-own-adventure book and I will pursue any interest that pops into my head.
