I Found A $50 Bill! Then I Felt Guilty…

Over a year ago I created a list of all the qualities I wanted in a girlfriend. I then focused my attention on that list and I met Regina in December of 2008. We’ve been together ever since and she is amazing. Of course that is NOT a surprise to me as she has all the qualities that were on my manifesting list.
One of our favorite things to do is look for money when we go out together. Long before we met, we both took T. Harv Ecker’s Millionaire Mind Intensive Seminar. In that seminar Harv says “How many times have you walked by a penny and not picked it up? If you are walking by pennies, and not picking them up, it is highly likely you are walking by money in other places too. Why? You are NOT focused on money.”
Regina and I both took that statement to heart. Neither of us walk by a penny without picking it up. When we met, we were both surprised to find out that we both pick up pennies. Since we are both competitive, we now race for pennies when we see them when we are hanging out together.
Here is what is interesting. Regina and I have both found $100 bills, $20 dollar bills, $10 bills, $5 dollar bills, $1 dollar bills, quarters, dimes and nickels because we are always looking for money when we are out and about. Do you know how good it feels to find a $100 bill? It’s awesome! Regina just found another $100 bill last week. It’s been about 8 months since I found my last $100 bill. We find big bills because we don’t walk by pennies. Case in point…
Last night we were at WalMart. As always we were both looking around for money when we were shopping. I found the first penny. Then Regina found two pennies. As we were walking out of the store we both saw something on the ground at the same time. We both raced for it. I grabbed it up just a second before she got there. It was a $50 bill! I love $50 bills. I make a point to carry $50 and $100 bills with me regularly because I get excited every time I see them in my wallet. Since we both saw the bill at the same time we decided to split it. We went home to eat Ben & Jerry’s Mint Chip ice cream and celebrate.
Guess what? The people that were walking in front of us walked right over the $50 bill and kept on going. Why? Why didn’t they see the $50 bill that was right in front of them? The answer is because they weren’t looking. I wonder how long the $50 bill was laying on the ground? I was in an airport a while back and I saw 3 quarters on the ground. I reached down to pick them up and found that they were glued to the ground. I looked around to see who the joker was that had glued the money to the ground. Who ever had done it was gone. I had some extra time so I decided to take a seat near the quarters. I wanted to see how many other people reached for it. What I saw blew my mind! In the 10 minutes or so that I was sitting there at least 30 people walked by the quarters. Only 1 guy reached down to pick the quarters up. These weren’t pennies but bright, shiny, brand new quarters. Only 1 guy stopped and tried to pick the quarters up. It takes under 5 seconds to pick up quarters.
An interesting thing happened on our way back to the house. I started feeling guilty for finding the $50 bill. Why? The people in the checkout line in front of me were hurting for money. They had to pull out 3 different credit cards to get their groceries because their credit cards kept getting declined. Those people could have really used the $50 bill. I know it doesn’t make any logical sense but the thought bugged me. It caused me to think about the typical person I saw at WalMart. A lot of the people in that store really look like they could use $50. Why did I find the $50 bill and not those people? Then I started thinking about how it felt when I lost a $20 bill in the grocery store a year ago. It didn’t feel that great. This line of thinking had me stressing about finding money! I decided it was time to do a focus wheel.
I learned about doing focus wheels from Regina who is a law of attraction coach (http://www.magnetic-ally.com). She learned about them from Abraham Hicks (www.abrahamhicks.com). What does a focus wheel do? It is an exercise that takes you from feeling bad about an issue to feeling good. I’ve used focus wheels to go from hating a situation, to loving it, in less than 30 minutes.
In doing the focus wheel (with the help of Regina) I realized two things…
First, when I lost that $20 in the grocery store, I wasn’t happy, but I didn’t care. I’m pretty sure the fruit guy found my $20 bill. I had gone back to see if I’d dropped the bill in the fruit section. I didn’t see anything but the fruit guy had a really excited look on his face. I didn’t have the heart to ask him if he’d found a $20 bill. Who ever lost the $50 bill could easily feel the way I did about my $20 bill. It’s never fun to lose money but it certainly is not the end of the world.
Second, I realized that I found the $50 bill because I was focused on finding money. The people in front of us walked right over the $50 bill and kept right on going. If I’d seen someone drop it, I’d have given it to them. However, I didn’t see anyone drop it so it was as much my money as it was any one else’s.
After realizing these two things I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders. This experience got me to thinking. Abraham (www.abrahamhicks.com) always says “You don’t have to do something to deserve good things to happen to you. All you have to do is align with good things happening to you and let them happen. You do not have to do anything!” I always thought this was obvious but finding the $50 bill got me thinking. If I won the lottery would I have guilty feelings about this too? What if I won a $100,000 dollars? Because of the work I just did on the $50 bill I know I would be stoked and NOT feeling guilty. What about you?
